holy shit. at some point during the 90’s i started believing America was racially progressive. glad i got over that.

slavery is not legitimized or de-ligitimized because of how an INDIVIDUAL WHO OWNS ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL treats or mistreats their “property”. its the fact that people own another. 

The crime begins with white supremacy. that people were not only taken from their homeland to be sold in a foreign country and forced to work for nothing. but that they were robbed of their culture, systematically denied rights, education, social status, murdered, beaten, raped and lynched before and even after being so “magnanimously” freed. even Greek and Roman slaves had opportunities for self-determination, to be freed, learn to read, learn a trade, etc.

and while the majority of people will counter argue with “oh but the Jews…”, “and the Irish…”, while it’s true they’ve encountered similar types violence, discrimination and bigotry, neither the Jews or the Irish have been as instrumental in the construction of the so-called “free-market”. Moreover Jewish and Irish populations have benefited from a distinct ability to assimilate, one which has in truth never been wholly afforded black people in any western society. 

This is the crime, that the real cost of America’s economic supremacy is so rarely discussed. That the millions of people who picked the cotton, tobacco and rice, that not only clothed, fed and kept America smoking, but made it a world superpower are written off as collateral damage. The crime is that their descendants are so often regarded as whiny, unwanted, second class citizens who can’t get over the minor injury that is racism.

the crime is that the western world owes a huge debt, will never have to reckon with it, and acts as if it pulled itself up by its bootstraps.

Why don’t people stop slavery in the middle east then? Stop bitching about something that happened 400 years ago and do something “racially progressive”
